My Times At CHSE

'i HATED CHSE, i really did'
kurkoh foni koh bunanama i will have no better phrase to describe it.

first, i did not want to join there in the first place.
it was my parents who wanted me there and ruined my long-dreamt goal.
because of that i have had to choose completely new field of studies

second, i HATE Amira. i even do today.
i detest her long dull speeches reminding of us being the cream of this pie or whatever.
i shudder at the way how she dresses.
more like she is from some other planet.
i cannot stand the way how she abetted that foreign teacher to leave Maldives after molesting this friend of mine.
i have some personal grounds with her because she disallowed me to go to IBS to do this networking course.
i wanted to spit on her for threatening to bring my parents just because i would not have her way and argue about it.
simply i cannot stand her.

third, i met this girl in the same class as mine.
i loved her.
she loved me. or she used to tell so.
in the end, this beard-father of her could not stand to see us being together.
you know why? because i did not grow my beard.:)
dammit.

fourth, i lost my interest in studies then and there.

sixth, i was continuously sick with this inevitable problems of mine.

a dull place it was for the study part.
but the fun part is unlimited.
teachers stink there.. except for this Dhivehi miss i loved..
too bad she was in a relationship:P keke

I was in CHSE too but more than 10 years back. Amira got enrolled there the year we joined. She was first a biology teacher and has risen the ranks to what she is now.

My classmates hated her, too, and had an unusual nickname for her (Hint: that woman's unusual name in the film "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.")

Anyway, I don't think Amira is necessarily evil. In fact, she is very nice and friendly. But the problem I think is that, like most of our parents generation, the "problem" with her maybe that she also was brought up in extremely conservative views. Hence, her "dictatorial" style.

We actually foresaw that one day CHSE will become a dictatorship. And our vision has been proven true with the rise of Amira to CHSE leadership.

But I dont think the total blame can be laid on her. We have to blame the Education Ministry too. They in fact viewed CHSE as some kind of alien place, an alien concept, a school run very differently from other schools in Male.

People like Dr. Latheef and Zahiya Zareer (former Education Ministers) never believed in democracy and freedoms and wanted to "discipline" children on a tight leash.

One of Dr. Latheef's young relatives once told me that Dr. Latheef gave him a "lesson" by telling him that during Dr. Latheef's young days he studied under candle light during his childhood, and therefore, we have come a long way, and we should appreciate the "development" and "tharaggee" Maumoon government has brought us.

Though in our time CHSE was the most liberal and democratic school (Ainthu Miss even put up a noticeboard exclusively for us to post our democratic and anti-CHSE notices) today CHSE has become none other than another primary or secondary school in Male.

CHSE was founded on the American high school model. Long time periods between classes so that we can go home, or go to cafes, or just hang out, at parks, libraries, more a social schooling idea, but today it has become like any other secondary school in Male run in that dictatorial and strict format.

I hope one day Maldives will have a high school or college that is run on the liberal format such as American high schools or even the very liberal Limkokwing University in Malaysia where you can wear anything you want and be just your freak self if you choose to, even demonstrating and protesting on issues like pro-choice and pro-abortion on the campus.

Ah, those were really the days for me. I still cherish those memories with nostalgia.

@pempeneno
Hehe. Good years which you saved.

@anonymous
Imagine how she will be when all of us spit on her? Parents are concerned for the well fair of their children. And they seriously think CHSE is a good place. Pity we can’t convince them otherwise.

@Hilath
I agree with you. Sometimes she is a mother-type, all consoling and dear. How I wish her dictatorial style do not take the better of her.
Was she a bio teacher? That’s something I did not know. Krin engunu nama I would not drop biology but will take private tuition from her.
Yep. It’s the system which failed.
Hope never dies. My hopes still remain.

@so you think
You would have loved there.

@solanoo
Remember with the help of you I dropped Biology

@.mini
Yep. I agree with you. But seems this Amira could not let me be myself. She could not stop messing me.
She lurves ice-cream…. Or may be its some hair cream..

@edm
She did not offer u to go to her cabin? That surprises me…
Prom night ves baavvanee? Kihaa salhi:P keke
Dr. Majeed should not know about it. Or else he will close the school..
